Restaurant of the Week: Epazote

Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails, located at the Hilton El Conquistador resort in Tucson, serves up Southwestern dishes with views of the Pusch Ridge on the outdoor patio.

Literally translated as “Mexican Tea,” Epazote is prominently used in Southwestern cuisine to add a spicy yet earthy flavor somewhat reminiscent of fennel. The dishes at Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails are inspired by this flavor and the traditions of the Southwest.

Guests will enjoy Southwestern dishes featuring locally sourced specialties such as Arizona grass fed beef, Southwest mountain trout, Colorado lamb, selected cheeses and Arizona grown produce.

We were so happy the weather was nice enough to sit outside dinner because the patio is so serene with views of the beautiful property and mountains. We started with a recommended Malbec and the House-made Guacamole and Tortilla Chips. You can add bacon, smoked duck, shrimp or crab to guacamole – yum!

For entrees, choose from classic dishes that have been given a Southwest-inspired twist, including an Arizona Grass-Fed Beef Burger with poblano chili and bacon; a Chipotle-Braised Beef Short Rib; and Guajillo Baby Back Ribs with a green chili macaroni.

Save room for dessert because the Spiced Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich and Churro Fries are a must-try.

Epazote also offers a gluten-free menu and a kids menu.
