Restaurant of the Week: Lincoln Steakhouse

After a temporary closure, Lincoln Steakhouse at JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa is open once again. Diners can look forward to a modern American steakhouse experience with a front-row view of Camelback Mountain and two of the Valley’s most glorious meal bookends: popovers and that famous cheesecake.

Shying away from the dimly lit, brooding look and feel of a traditional steakhouse, Lincoln Steakhouse is light-filled and welcoming, while still offering a sumptuous atmosphere to suit even a special occasion outing. Its patio–dotted with planters flowing with vibrant flowers, Camelback in the distance and with strings of twinkle lights above–is a delightful space to take in a meal on a spring evening.

The menu, from Executive Chef Paul Valenzuela, is on-par with the heavenly atmosphere, starting with Lincoln’s beloved popovers, which are served in lieu of a usual bread basket.

In true steakhouse fashion, the shrimp cocktail is a must-try appetizer, spotlighting three large, chilled shrimp sided with cocktail sauce, trout roe and a charred lemon for squeezing. The roasted beet salad is another light, colorful starter, bursting with various shades of beets, orange segments, candied pecans, local goat cheese and a delicate drizzle of orange blossom vinaigrette.

Though the menu spotlights several hand-cut Cedar River Farms beef and Prime steaks–ranging from a 9-oz. filet mignon to a 24-oz. porerhouse and all seared at 1,200 degrees in the Valley’s only Josper Charcoal Oven–there are several other standout entree selections. The agave whiskey-glazed salmon offers a subtle sweetness while the brown sugar-brined pork chop, topped with fresh diced apricot, is a hearty, juicy option.

Not to be overlooked is Lincoln’s stellar selection of sides and add-ons, including seared foie gras and lobster tail. The charred asparagus, paired with lemon gremolata, is as springy as it gets. And the mashed potatoes, steaming with a glistening puddle of butter in the center, is a comforting classic.

For dessert, Lincoln’s signature cheesecake is simply a fact. A must. A tasty truth. The petite treat features a buttery graham cracker crust, filled with a rich cream cheese and a thin layer of vanilla sour cream sauce. On the side, a swipe of sweet raspberry coulis. The cheesecake offers a slight tang to satisfy those who love a New York style but enough sweetness to appease diners who prefer a traditional cheesecake.

Lincoln Steakhouse is open from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. To learn more, visit camelbackinn.com.
