Restaurant of the Week: Nori Sushi

With locations in North Scottsdale and now High Street in North Phoenix, Nori Sushi is a cutting-edge casual eatery. It offers a robust menu of entrees, bento boxes and a variety of the freshest seafood and sushi–the pride of Nori Sushi.

The relaxing restaurant space features modern décor statements like simple wood beams, vibrant pops of gold and a sizable patio featuring gray metal accents, including an artistic fire wall and beautiful fire pits that complement the contemporary feel.

Developed by well-known master sushi chef Hyunwook Lee–who is fueled by culinary passion and artistic plating–sushi lovers and those just simply out for a good time will find comfort at Nori Sushi. Menu options include a sushi and sashimi lineup and an Asian-inspired main menu with dishes like the High Street Garden Greens Salad, ahi tuna poki, bone-in ribeye, short rib curry, chicken udon, pork belly ramen, tempura and mochi ice cream, to name a few.

While there are plenty of satisfying options, the ahi tuna tataki maki roll is a must-try. The signature roll starts by combining spicy tuna with asparagus and cooling cucumber, rice, tataki tuna, avocado and a garnish of savory, crispy fried onions and a drizzle of Nori’s modern dressing.

For a bit of variety, the bento boxes have become a new lunch favorite! Guests can choose from four variations; two of which contain different combinations of fresh sashimi, nigiri and maki rolls; the third option with a choice of steak, salmon or chicken; and a fourth option offering up a sashimi platter. Served with traditional appetizers like miso soup, green salad, white rice, chef’s vegetables, cucumber sunomono and pork gyoza, these beautifully crafted bento boxes are designed with nutrition in mind.

Beyond sushi, sake lovers will appreciate the assortment of sweet and dry sakes. Whether you are looking for delicate and light or fragrant and full-bodied flavors, there is a sake for everyone. Signature cocktails like the Suntory Sour– Suntory Toki Japanese Whiskey, house-made yuzu blend, one frothed egg white and simple syrup–provide a boozy mix of award-winning whiskey and citrus that marinates beautifully on your palate. Nori also has bottled beer and Japanese rice lager on tap.

Arizona hosts two Nori Sushi locations, with the Scottsdale location nestled near the McDowell Mountains on Bell Road and Thompson Peak Parkway, and the Phoenix location near Desert Ridge Marketplace on 53rd and High Streets.

The two locations feature the same menu Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and happy hour every day from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information on Nori Sushi, visit www.noriaz.com.
