Restaurant of the Week: Prime

With former “Chopped” champion Demetrio Zavala at its helm, all-encompassing sky-high views and an indulgent lineup of elevated fare from both land and sea, dinner at Prime, A Shula’s Steak House, in Chandler is simply a must.

A hidden gem inside of Gila River Resorts & Casinos – Wild Horse Pass , Prime is a dining experience unlike any other. Upon arrival to the lobby, a private glass elevator will take visitors 150 feet up to the top floor, where the restaurant rests on the 11th story (though if you are afraid of heights, you can use the traditional elevator, too).

Its intimate interior shines with the help of the floor-to-ceiling windows, providing each guest with 360-degree views of the quiet desert terrain and Estrella Mountains in the distance. Prime brings the outside in, with an open balcony available for dining, perfect for enjoying a romantic dinner for two under the stars or catching a photo at sunset.

Though its views and cozy ambiance are enough reason to visit the steakhouse, its menu is what brings guests back for more. The lineup includes a variety of luxury bites from both land and sea. Some of our favorites include the cheese and charcuterie board, with Maytag blue cheese, burrata, aged pecorino, prosciutto, chorizo, country paté served with crostini, grain mustard, strawberry-pink peppercorn jam, cornichons and radishes; and the aged filet mignon with grilled shrimp, rustic mashed potatoes and house-made bread.

Baked Alaska

Be sure to save room for dessert, and try the to-die-for Baked Alaska with key lime gelato, shortbread, charred Italian meringue and a raspberry compote or the French-inspired apple tarte with warm apple spirals, shortbread, smoked apple gel and Calvados gelato.

A cocktail menu is available to wash everything down, with decadent sips like the Bougie James Bond with vodka, dry Vermouth, crème fraiche and blue cheese stuffed olives, or the Perfect Old Fashioned with bourbon, Demerara reduction, chocolate bitters, torched orange and barrel smoke. In addition to these mixed drinks is an ample wine cabinet in addition to beers on tap.
