The newest culinary venture to hit Desert Ridge with its laidback attitude and colossal shakes is Sid’s Garage. It is a family-owned and -operated spot with over-the-top shakes, in-your-face burgers, ice-cold sips and a rockin’-good time.
Owned and operated by couple Will and Nicole Primavera, this small business has trekked all the way from Iowa to bring its to-die-for bites to the Sonoran Desert. The new spot has taken over the former home of Nori, located right across the splash pad, at Desert Ridge Marketplace in Phoenix. It’s hard to miss with its outdoor patio bar, music and eclectic décor that starts from the outside with gas pump door handles and a skull and crossbones mural.
Inside, guests will find the outdoor bar flowing in with overhead flatscreens, an open dining space and overhead seating on a second-floor balcony. Suspended metal kegs can be found dangling from the ceiling, while the walls are painted head-to-toe with murals of musical icons like Eazy-E and Amy Winehouse.
As for its fare, the spot boasts elevated yet eccentric dishes, like the famous Boss Hog burger, made with a combination of Wagyu beef and Black Angus, topped with a 48-hour roasted pork belly, onion rings and a scratch-made sriracha-bourbon sauce; Godzilla with three patties, candied bacon, fried egg, aged cheddar cheese, lettuce and a raspberry-cayenne jam; or Not-So-Wimpy classic burger with candied bacon, aged cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and a very secret sauce.
Although it is compelling to eat every burger on-site, be sure to save room for dessert and try one of Sid’s Garage’s many over-the-top milkshakes. The shakes are an Instagramable works of art, with some having full-on cake slices and lollipops as a garnish. Our favorites include the Sweet Baby Jesus with birthday cake buttercream, vanilla bean ice cream, sprinkles and a big slice of funfetti cake; and Midnight Munchies with Fruity Pebbles, vanilla ice cream, a brown butter glaze and a rainbow lollipop (this one is made with Fruity Pebbles cereal milk). Each milkshake even comes with an option to add some milligrams of CBD.
To wash everything down, visit the bar for some ice-cold brews on tap or in a bottle, glasses of wine or one of Sid’s Garage’s refreshing handcrafted cocktails. Some must-try mixed drinks include the Setting Sun Sangria with white wine, seasonal puree fruit and a Champagne float; Mule Kick with huckleberry, cucumber, Tyku sake, ginger beer and lime; and the Mysterious Beer in a Bag (guess what this drink is and they will give it to you for free).
If the above is somehow not enough to convince you to visit the new joint, know the spot also offers a mini arcade, live music and a place to truly let your hair down.
