Restaurant of the Week: SumoMaya

SumoMaya, located at Lincoln and Scottsdale Road, is a Mexican Asian Kitchen that is proving to be one of the hottest new restaurants in town.

SumoMaya was created by Valley restaurateur German Osio (Central Bistro, Local Bistro), and offers a bold menu created by acclaimed chef Herb Wilson.

The first thing you notice when you walk in SumoMaya is the hip vibe and ambience. One unique feature that we really liked is a tree in the middle of the restaurant (don’t worry, it’s fake. You won’t have tree debris falling in your food. lol). SumoMaya also has a large patio with sliding glass doors that collapse into the wall, leaving an airy and open feel when the weather permits.

The menu ranges from guacamole, to sushi, to tacos, to pad thai, to New York strip steak. Here are some of our favorite menu items that we highly recommend:

  •  Lump crab guacamole
  • “Real” California roll – the “real” part is the real crabmeat they use. It really takes this somewhat ordinary menu item to the next level.
  • Ahi tuna tacos
  • Maya roll
  • Green magic mojito – this frozen cocktail is light and refreshing!

SumoMaya is open for dinner seven days a week: Monday-Thursday 5-10pm, Friday-Saturday 5-11pm, and Sundays 5-9pm. Happy hour daily from 3-6pm.
