Brunch the porch

Restaurant of the Week: The Porch Gilbert

Whether looking for a fresh spot for date night or weekend brunch with girlfriends, The Porch is the newest restaurant on the scene in Downtown Gilbert offering up craft cocktails and comfort food.

The newly opened neighborhood restaurant has a large outdoor dining patio perfect for Arizona’s beautiful weather and a massive center bar inside–the great combo of a backyard barbecue experience with an upscale restaurant feel.

The Porch has happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 6:15 p.m., 15 minutes longer than others in the area. The Porch also offers a late-night menu, and a specialty kids menu with fun names like “I Don’t Know” (junior bacon cheeseburger) and “I Want To Go Home” (quesadilla).

Craving some fried chicken with a kick? The Nashville chicken sammy is a flavor explosion of crispy Southern-style chicken, paired with a sweet and spicy slaw, house pickles, green apple and hot sauce. For a less spicy option and still a twist on a classic, try the French dip burger, made with chuck beef, swiss cheese, horseradish cream, bourbon caramelized onions and au jus, on top of a brioche bun.

For a vegetarian or gluten-free option, try one of The Porch’s bowls or salads. The black and white tuna poke bowl is a delicious medley of black and white rice, sushi-grade tuna, cucumbers, bell peppers, golden beets, avocado, soy garlic sauce and siracha aioli. The green chili mac and cheese is a comforting classic, made with penne, a four-cheese blend, roasted green chilis and topped with bread crumbs.

The Porch is known for its quirky cocktails, and “A Strawberry And A Lemon Walked Into A Bar,” made with Deep Eddy vodka, strawberry puree, lemon juice, agave and soda, is a fruity-filled favorite. For traditional tastes, try The Bee’s Knees, made with Prairie Gin, fresh lemon juice, organic honey syrup, lemon twist and ginger syrup.

The Porch also has locations in Tempe and Arcadia. For information on The Porch in Downtown Gilbert, visit www.porchrestaurants.com.
