Restaurant of the Week: Toro

Toro Latin Restaurant & Rum Bar, a Richard Sandoval concept at The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, overlooks the 18th green of the TPC Stadium Course and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

The restaurant has a suviche bar (sushi and ceviche), wok dishes, small plates for sharing, grilled entrees and an impressive selection of 111 types of rum, plus sugar cane spirits and Latin wines, live entertainment on weekends and Sunday brunch.

The massive patio overlooking the golf course was our favorite. You can dine at a table, or relax by a fire pit with some cocktails.

The Toro menu varies from corn empanadas and Catalonia cocas-style flatbreads, to achiote barbecue Atlantic salmon, Mexican campfire whole snapper and the signature tomahawk rib eye. Popular side dishes include the chipotle pork belly mac ‘n’ cheese, Yuca fries with mojo sauce and a grilled avocado with sweet corn pico de gallo. There is also a suviche bar where Chef Tournant Kai Torcuato and Sous Chef Fernando Fernandez prepare sushi and ceviche dishes such as hamachi tiradito, shrimp and tuna Nikkei ceviche and smoked swordfish dip with pickled chiles. There was definitely nothing that we tried that we didn’t like.

The selection of cocktails is endless, but they specialize in Rums. We thoroughly enjoyed a celebration of life rum toast during our visit there.
