Restaurant of the Week: Union Barrelhouse

Scottsdale’s first nano-brewery recently opened in Old Town Scottsdale at the former site of Salty Senorita. Union Barrelhouse will produce its own artisanal craft beer, as well as offer a large selection of beers on tap to be served alongside upscale tavern cuisine. The restaurant is styled with beer in mind. From barley stocks as flowers, exposed wood beams, a fireplace and a stage for live music and a large outdoor patio.

Union Barrelhouse offers more then just beer to quench your thirst, they also offer hand mixed cocktails and mixed beer drinks, which are worth trying. We sampled the French 75 made with gin, which was refreshing and perfect for summer. If you aren’t a gin person, try something new! We also tried the Blonde, Brunette and Redhead. Which is not a bad joke, but an excellent drink made with three types of beer.

For starters we had the Liberty Fondue with warm pretzels and a three-cheese fondue dip. As well as the 2nd Street Farmers Market Salad made with beets, bosc pears, sugared almonds, bleu cheese, arugula and kale.

For the main meal we ordered the Sergeant Pepper melt sandwich and the Union Grilled Steak Burger, both delicious choices. They also offer vegetarian options such as the Black Bean Burger and can make most dishes vegetarian friendly.

But make sure you save room for a shake! These adult shakes, and kid friendly options, are sensational! We sampled the Blackout Cow, Morning Missile, Chocolate Wasted and the Dreamsicle shake. All were delicious creamy blends of ice cream and alcohol or beer. I’m dreaming of having another shake during these hot days!
