Royale Kitchen + Cocktails (formerly known as YUMBAR) is a Melrose neighborhood staple for intentional casual fare. Just like its customer service, the menu is designed to be inspired by and welcoming of all backgrounds.
Featuring menu items such as the Moroccan couscous, street tacos, and Thai shrimp coconut curry, Royale Kitchen + Cocktails is a form of transportation to other cities and various cultures for its guests. Mark Howard decided to give Downtown Phoenix an option for getting any and every type of style of food under one roof. Having been the owner of YUMBAR and FEZ Restaurant & Bar, Howard has been able to connect the dots with what people in Downtown Phoenix are looking for. “They want something quick, but they also don’t want to be limited,” he says.
Offering a variety of friendly options, Howard and his team have made sure that the Royale Kitchen + Cocktails menu is not only inclusive, but that it is also reflective of how people want to eat as well. Many of the menu features are designed to be altered to the diners’ most ideal version and can come with a vegetarian substitution upon request. Whether they have a taste for traditional American favorites, classic Mexican features, Italian fare, or South and South East Asian plates, guests can find an array of options at Royale Kitchen + Cocktails in a range of appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, sweet treats, cocktails, and non-alcoholic “Phonies.”
Just like its Palm Springs-esque interior, the menu items come to the table with presentations that are playful with color and maximization. While the interior features eccentric and bold colors with large painted accents such as palm trees, flamingos, and martini glasses, the dishes follow suit with a captivating array of ingredients and impressively sized portions. Diners will find feature entrees on a bed of fresh and colorful veggies or submerged in coconut curry and garnished with beautifully flaked shavings of scallions—each coming in a quantity that could be big enough to share.

Royale Kitchen + Cocktails is open Monday to Thursday, from 4:30 to 10 p.m.; Friday, from 4:30 to 11 p.m.; Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekend brunch is available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
