The Green Woodpecker to Open in Phoenix

Craft beer and taco enthusiasts will swarm to Park Central as The Green Woodpecker prepares to debut inside the large indoor-outdoor nest in the center of Midtown Phoenix this December.

The Green Woodpecker is an upscale take on the classic beer hall. Locally owned and run by brothers Aaron and Jared Pool of Gadzooks Enchiladas & Soup, the atmosphere is accentuated by an ever-changing assortment of 15 unique beers on tap, all hand-picked by their third brother, Drew Pool of Wren House Brewing. A family affair, The Green Woodpecker is a part of the newly formed Poolhouse Group, which also includes Mama Linda’s Bakeshop, run by the Pools’ mother.

Situated inside the central courtyard of a recently renovated open-air center, The Green Woodpecker will serve a mouthwatering menu of house-made tortilla chips with fresh salsas and al pastor tacos sliced to order directly off the rotating trompo grill. Along with premium packaged beers, wines and other to-go items, The Green Woodpecker will also sell fresh floral arrangements as a homage to the longstanding former gift and flower shop at Park Central that served as inspiration for naming the establishment.

The Green Woodpecker

“Growing up in Phoenix and living and working in Midtown for more than a decade, I know how important Park Central is to this neighborhood,” says Aaron Pool in a press release. “We’re honored to be able to help revitalize this important historic property, the first-ever shopping center built outside of Downtown Phoenix, and wanted to create something that caters to today’s diners and drinkers, while also recognizing Park Central’s amazing history.”

The Green Woodpecker accommodates up to 100 guests in regal grandeur within a spacious indoor-outdoor 4,500-sq.-ft. venue, alongside an elegant color scheme of dark greens and oxblood burgundies. In addition, guests can watch the tacos and chips being made fresh in the kitchen, which is located in the heart of the more compact island-style interior. Alternatively, guests can relax on the expansive and elevated courtyard while enjoying tacos and craft beer in a more sunny setting.

Every night at 5 p.m., The Green Woodpecker will be serving up satisfying sips, perfect plates and irreplaceable experiences to share with friends and family. If it couldn’t get any better, there will be happy hour on weekdays from 5 to 7 p.m. with reduced taps of craft beers, among other things. And definitely keep an eye out for Poolboy Taco, a new Park Central endeavor that will open in January.
