Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children–a Scottsdale facility that offers a comprehensive range of support services and programs for those conquering pediatric cancer in a safe, comforting space–has unveiled Baxter’s Kitchen, sponsored by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.
Baxter’s Kitchen is designed to provide nourishment, comfort, and support for local cancer warriors and their families. Though Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children just turned 10, it moved into its current 12,000-sq.-ft. home in 2022.
As you step into Baxter’s Kitchen, which was designed by Scottsdale-based Aline Architecture Concepts to feel like a comfortable home kitchen, guests are greeted by the aroma of freshly prepared meals and seating for 40 people to be served buffet style. Families are even invited to take pre-made meals home.
“We are deeply grateful to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation for helping us create this haven of warmth and care, ensuring that every family feels supported and cherished,” says Chrisie Abramo, president and founder of Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children, in a press release. “Seeing the children and their families enjoy a sense of community and support within this space is incredibly heartwarming and vital to our mission.”
In addition to the newly added kitchen and dining space, the foundation is also home to a toy “store,” filled with toys, games, and activities to bring joy to the patients and their siblings during hospital stays; a paint splatter room and an art studio that invite kids to get creative; a teen room; and much more. Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children also provides an endless list of services, including K9 therapy, counciling, financial support, and events (like birthday parties and end-of-treatment celebrations). The Scottsdale nonprofit is currently serving 400 families a year and hopes to serve 1,200 families annually over the next decade.
