Nonprofit of the Month: Rare Ambition AZ

Arizona’s newest nonprofit, Rare Ambition, is a Scottsdale-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization founded by Mary Hampton with the mission to positively impact others, help families in need and make a difference.

In a year dominated by so much loss, Hampton saw the season as an opportunity to serve others and engage more deeply within her greater community. Having already created a name for herself throughout the Valley as an entrepreneur—Hampton also owns Scottsdale-based Hampton Design & Closest and Hook & Hunt—she launched the nonprofit with the support of her family.

“What began as an idea for a single act of kindness, quickly became a movement,” says Hampton.

Years ago, Hampton and her children committed to making a list of “10 acts of kindness,” which they could later pay forward to help others. Among their list items was to create baskets which would later be gifted to families in need.

The simple act of generosity and goodwill has quickly evolved into a full-fledged business for the family—one that provided them the opportunity to feed families in need this past Thanksgiving.

Through a simple donation, 22 families were able to receive a Thanksgiving basket that included picture frames, a centerpiece, table cloth and a complete Thanksgiving meal which featured dinner staples like a large turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and pie.

With so many Maricopa County-based families struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic and rising unemployment rates, the work of Rare Ambition is spreading a positive light throughout communities that desperately need it.

While the nonprofit organization is still in its developing stages, Rare Ambition will continue its mission to support families however they’re able to in the coming year. For more information, visit www.rareambition.com.
