Erika Lynne Hanson: Future Ecologies Exhibit
August 3 @ 5:00 pm
Mountain Shadows resort in Paradise Valley will debut a new exhibition in The Gallery on Tuesday, Aug. 3: Erika Lynne Hanson: Future Ecologies.
Featuring new works by this talented local artist and Associate Professor of Fibers/Socially Engaged Practices at Arizona State University. Woven tapestries, found and crafted objects, and video works will all be on display. Erika will be on hand for conversation during the opening reception on Thursday, Aug. 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring complimentary wine from Hearth ’61.
Hanson’s research-based, contemporary practice is driven by a sense of wonder and purpose. She upends traditional interpretations of weaving as a feminine or craft-centered tradition and employs soft power to address ominous concerns of ecology, climate, and human nature. Her multi-disciplinary approach includes performative, site-specific encounters with architecture and landscape.
Several of Erika’s video works will activate areas of the resort beyond the gallery walls, connecting visitors to the exhibition. Streaming on the big screen at Hearth ’61, in The Living Room, and on the screens in every guestroom will be several of her new media projects. This exhibition is on view through Sept. 30, and is open to the public. Explore brand-new, museum-quality exhibitions at The Gallery every two months, curated by Cece Cole.
