Scorpius Dance Theatre’s DG

January 27, 2022 - January 29, 2022

scorpius-dance

For one weekend only, from Jan. 27 to Jan. 29, Scorpius Dance Theatre returns to the Phoenix Theatre with D.G., which is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s timeless novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray.

In this morally ambiguous Victorian tale, lust, greed, beauty, and the quest for eternal youth create messy, blurred lines between good and evil. In 2019, Scorpius’ Founder and Artistic Director, Lisa Starry, unleashed a seductive multi-disciplined vision through dance, theatre, music and visual arts. The show returns with its same bold, energetic approach and popular performers debuting in lead roles.

In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Wilde explores a devastating portrait of the effects of a life of wickedness and debauchery. The book centers on a striking premise. As Dorian Gray falls into a life of crime and sensual fulfillment, his body retains perfect youth and vigor, while his recently painted portrait grows day-by-day into a hideous record of evil. This dark secret, he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. As Wilde’s only novel, Dorian Gray ranks as one of his most important creations and among the timeless achievements of its kind.

New in this rendition of D.G., Angel Castro will be performing as Dorian Gray, Kalli Sparish as Sibyl Vane, and James Flores as Basil Hallward. Alexander Patrick is returning to play Lord Henry Wotton.
