Hometown: Peoria, AZ (raised in Dundee, OR)

First job: My first real job was at KFC in Newberg, OR. I was lucky enough to be chosen as a chicken frier/dishwasher. It was a very humbling experience and made me appreciate the importance of getting an education as this would be a very difficult job to perform for a lifetime. I was responsible for frying chicken, cleaning dishes, making biscuits and taking out the trash. Even though I only worked there for several months, it caused me to avoid eating their food for over a decade. Since then I have had other random jobs such as bailing hay, yard work, painting and even working in the anatomy lab for college work study but nothing compares to being a physical therapist and helping patients avoid surgery, medication and injections. I think of those work experiences as things that happened FOR me, not to me.

Favorite AZ restaurant: Arrowhead Grill – Great food, great place for a date night, and close to our home in Peoria!

Favorite Scottsdale Restaurant – True Food Kitchen. Its healthy, fast, and great service! I have not tried something their that I haven’t liked. Its also located at the Scottsdale Quarter which is great location for shopping, and outdoor activities for the kids.

Person who has impacted your life the most: My wife- Tami Hefferon! She has helped me become a better man, husband, father and business owner. Having a teammate like Tami has helped to grow our business to the level its at today. Tami helps to inspire and motivate me to be a better communicator and mentor to our employees and family. She has also helped me to take risks when I may be more reserved and grounds me when I want to lunge out at new business endeavors. I would not be where I am today without her support and inspiration.

Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: #1: Raising my 2 amazing kids (Jackson & Natalie) #2: Founding Impact Physical Therapy in 2015! It has been an amazing journey balancing being a father, husband and business owner. The relationships that I have made with our patients and coworkers is something that that is very important to me and my life. What we have accomplished thus far is remarkable in the physical therapy world and I am excited to continue this amazing journey for many years to come.

The biggest obstacle you have overcome: Leaving a comfortable job and salary as a PT to pursue owning my own cash based physical therapy business. I had a normal, comfortable life as a physical therapist seeing at least 25+ patients a day. In most peoples eyes this is success…. the problem was that I didn’t want to be an average Joe nor did I believe in the insurance based physical therapy model. Leaving my job to pursue a business was one of my biggest obstacles, but I would do it again in a heartbeat! Owning your on business comes with its challenges. Some days you think you have it all figured out and the next day you might be thinking “what the hell am I doing.” Life is about pursuing your dreams and not selling your will to win.

Someone who inspires you: Grant Cardone- he is a master of sales and motivating people. Anytime I need inspiration I listen to his book “10X” as this will light a fire under anyone’s ass! His energy and ability to connect is infectious. Other great influencers: Verne Harnish, Tim Ferris, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Tony Robbins.

Favorite quote: Wow this is hard- so many good quotes but here are a few food ones…

“The single biggest financial mistake I’ve made was not thinking big enough. I encourage you to go for more than a million. There is no shortage of money on this planet, only a shortage of people thinking big enough.” – Grant Cardone

“If you are not willing to risk the usual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” – Jim Rohn

“Love your family, work super hard, live your passion.” ― Gary Vaynerchuk,

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Being a physical therapist is one of the most fulfilling jobs an individual could have. Being able to work with a variety of patients in a multitude of settings keeps you stimulated, active and engaged on a daily basis. To be able to help someone in pain or dysfunction and getting them to a place where they can workout, return to sports, play with their grandchildren, lift weights and/or see them walk again is priceless.

What makes someone fabulous: Someone that embodies greatness in most aspects of their life. A fabulous person is someone who emits a type of passion and energy that is contagious to others around them. Someone you want to be around because they make you feel better and want to do better. A fabulous person is confident in their abilities yet is humble enough to still want to learn and grow.
