First job: I got my first job when I was 13 years old with the McBride Building Group in Scottsdale, Arizona. I worked during the summers digging trenches and cleaning construction sites for $6.00 an hour.
Favorite AZ restaurant: Sizzle Korean BBQ – I am fascinated by the diversity of the flavors as well as the interaction; being involved in cooking your food while socializing with loved ones.
Person who has impacted your life the most: Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes and why: Opening Local Bistro in the middle of a recession without any partners. I had to overcome so many challenges, including dealing with people’s negativity and the fear of failure.
The biggest obstacle you have overcome: Becoming involved in a high-risk industry and proving my ability to run and operate successful restaurants. Opening Local Bistro in the middle of a recession and in a location that has had past restaurant failures.
Someone who inspires you: George Biel founder of Hillstone Restaurant Group. In my opinion, he has created the greatest, most consistent restaurant group in the world. He has set the benchmark for many restaurateurs. He has also bred many successful restaurateurs who have created leading restaurant groups of their own.
Favorite quote: “Today you must be better than yesterday and worse than tomorrow.”
Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Believe in yourself, don’t get wrapped up in people’s negativity, do it for the love of the game, be consistent with quality, be a perfectionist and never settle.
What makes someone fabulous: Someone who embodies the following five values: honor, loyalty, diligence, courage and commitment.
