Beach Trip with Tommy Camper Vans

Is a healthy dose of salty ocean air calling your name this fall? Outdoor enthusiast Chierstin Susel shares her three-day trip–with her pup, Newman–to the beach via Phoenix’s own Tommy Camper Vans.

Day 1 to Day 3 itinerary:

The first day of trip, we spent the night in Palm Springs before heading out to Malibu. In Malibu, we did a beautiful waterfall hike called Escondido Falls before spending the rest of the day at Point Mugu State Park.

The following day, we headed over to Wildwood Regional Park in Thousand Oaks and did another waterfall hike (Paradise Falls). We then drove to Huntington Dog Beach, where we made lunch on the portable stove and hung out on the beach the rest of the day.

On the way back to Arizona the following day, we drove through and spent some time at Joshua Tree National Park. We also cooked lunch there before finishing up our drive home.

Best part of this entire trip? It was all dog-friendly, and Newman had an absolute blast. He did well sleeping in the Tommy Camper Van, too.

One thing I’d do differently? We ended up finding parking lots to sleep in each night, but there are some really great campsites right on the beach or right near the beach. They were all booked up by the time we planned our trip, so if there was one thing I’d do differently next time, it would be trying to make sure I secured a spot to spend the night on the beach.

Thinking of planning your own Tommy Camper Van adventure this fall? The Phoenix business now offers camper van rentals. Perfect for groups of friends or a family ready to hit the road, there is seating four and with room to sleep four to six passengers. Many of the comforts of home can be expected from a Tommy Camper Vans rental, including a Dometic RTX2000 Rear AC and Espar diesel furnace for keeping a comfortable temperature; refrigerators; swivel leather seats; heated interior and exterior showers; a 30-gallon freshwater tank with a farmers sink; and much more.

Prices start at $169 a night for a new Mercedes sprinter rental to $249 a night for the largest sprinter AWD.
