How to Build a Custom Camper Van

Is “travel more” on your to-do list? Consider hitting the road (and then the beach, mountains, desert–the possibilities are endless!) with a custom camper van from Phoenix-based Tommy Camper Vans, founded by Mikey Rudman.

Pick the Vehicle

A blank canvas for your custom camper van, choosing a vehicle is the first step of the design process. Tommy Camper Vans can source the van for you (with financing available), or you can bring a van to the pros to customize.

Options include Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Econoline, Ram ProMaster, Ford Transit and more.

Pick the Layout

During the layout consult, Tommy Camper Vans customers can choose from four layouts when building their own custom camper van:

Bennett

Bennett, Tommy Camper Van’s original layout, includes a two-burner propane cooktop, farmhouse sink, 5-gallon greywater holding tank and roof rack

Maddox

Maddox, a standout with a heated indoor shower, also includes a two-burner propane cooktop, farmhouse sink, 5-gallon greywater holding tank and roof rack

Jump Seat

Jump Seat, perfect for families, features a two-burner propane cooktop, farmhouse sink, 5-gallon greywater holding tank and roof rack

Convertible Dinette

Convertible Dinette features a dining table (offering plenty of space for working remotely), a two-burner propane cooktop, farmhouse sink, 5-gallon greywater holding tank and roof rack

Custom Features

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the custom camper van process is the addition of unique features to make a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle. Tommy Camper Vans offers a wide selection of custom features to make #vanlife even more convenient. Add-on options include a larger shower, third stove burner, lounge storage bench, custom upper cabinets with microwave, AC unit, additional lighting, toilet installation and base cabinet for a refrigerator, to name a few.

The current lead time is three months for standard layouts, while custom builds take five months.
