As the weather heats up, so does The Ravenscroft’s concert lineup. May is jam-packed with performances – from student showcases to album release parties with iconic jazz legends, there is a show for everyone to enjoy between Friday, May 17 and Friday, May 31.

Jazzbird Nights: Bijan Taghavi Trio ft. Luther Hughes & Lewis Nash
Friday, May 17th at 7:00pm
Bijan Taghavi is one of the most in-demand pianists of his generation and among the leading voices in jazz piano education. This performance is Bijan’s last stop of his three-day Solo-Duo-Trio West Coast tour, where he will then finish his solo piano album Arizona Sessions to be released later this year. Bijan is joined by two legends for this special night at the Ravenscroft: Luther Hughes on bass from California, and Lewis Nash on drums. Both have worked with many of jazz’s most celebrated icons over their 40+ year careers. While Bijan has worked with them both in separate configurations, this will be their first time all playing together in what is set to be a historical evening and a swinging affair!

Chamber @ Ravenscroft: Celebration

The second season of Chamber @ Ravenscroft concludes with a rousing Celebration. The concert features an international roster of collaborative artists in a varied program, highlighted by one of the most remarkable works written for a piano quintet – Antonin Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major. This Celebration concert features two violins, the viola, cello and piano f0r a well-rounded night of music excellence brought to you by talented artists seen in the National Philharmonic, Phoenix Symphony and many more renowned organizations.

Jazzbird Nights: Arsen Nalbandian Trio

The Jazzbird is excited to welcome the Arsen Nalbandian Trio for their album release concert! This local piano trio will be presenting original arrangements of Great American Songbook standards from their latest album, “In Depth”. Dedicated to the stylings of some of the great swinging pianists in history such as Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, and Bill Evans, these intricately crafted arrangements aim to deliver an energetic and dynamic performance that one could closely associate to the spirit and essence of Big Band music.

Jazz for the Soul: We3 & Shelia Earley
Sunday, May 26th at 6:00PM
Witness the powerhouse of talents combined, featuring vocalist Renee Grant Patrick, violinist Suzanne Lansford, pianist Nicole Pesce, and drummer Sheila Earley. Enjoy some timeless tunes with new and familiar interpretations of popular, jazz, swing and blues standards. Jazz for the Soul Concerts are FREE and open to the public, all donations received will benefit local and international humanitarian causes.

Jazzbird Nights: Raúl Yañez and Zona Libre

Spend a wonderful evening at the Jazzbird with Raúl Yañez and Zona Libre, a dynamic ensemble led by the talented pianist and educator Raúl Yañez. Now, alongside his long-time bandmates and dear friends in Zona Libre, Yañez invites you to immerse yourself in an evening of Latin Jazz fusion. From the infectious rhythms of Mambo and Salsa to the soulful melodies of Bolero and Samba, experience the vibrant energy and rich diversity of Latin music as interpreted by this exceptional ensemble. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the intersection of jazz and Latin rhythms with Raúl Yañez and Zona Libre.
