Favorite ways to spend family time in AZ: I love being home with my crew. Being fully present is something that I treasure but is something that is easily missed in the craziness of everyday life. Doing nothing and being bored with my kids is one of my favorite things to do. It gives us a chance to be creative and that often ends up with lots of silliness, laughter and impromptu plans that I never take for granted. We also celebrate a lot as a family. Everything is celebrated — big or small — and that brings all of us great joy.

Your most rewarding motherhood moment: Having twins as my first pregnancy, including one twin with special needs, was a difficult transition for me. It took me a bit to learn how to let go of how I envisioned my life as a mom to be. I always said that my kids would teach me more about myself than I ever thought possible, and it is so true. It has taught me about the power of positivity, resilience, unconditional love and acceptance.

Biggest challenge as a mom: Giving myself the same grace that I extend to others is one of my biggest challenges. And, reminding myself that it’s ok to ask for help is both humbling and essential.

A mother who inspires you and why: My own mom inspires me tremendously. She is incredibly nurturing, selfless and patient, walking beside me through our journey as a medically-challenged family. I wouldn’t be the mom that I am without her. I’m blessed to be raising my children with her so close by just as I was raised many years ago with my own grandmother nearby. I’ve always been surrounded by other women and mom figures who have taught me to be the best version of myself. And for that, I’m truly grateful.

Best piece of advice for a new mom: There’s no manual on how to be “the perfect mom.” Pour into yourself and allow others to pour into you. It’s OK to not know everything, so let your village guide you. And let yourself evolve as a woman and mom right alongside your children. You’ll learn so much about yourself that you can be proud of.

Your biggest hope for your children: I will always encourage my children to be the best version of themselves and to live their lives with empathy, compassion and gratitude.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day? I let my family take the lead every year and it often includes me saying that I want no fuss over me on Mother’s Day. I’m content with just letting the day take its course and have often requested that we just order a pizza for dinner and do nothing. Have to admit that enjoying a hot cup of coffee in silence is always a treat as well!
