Restaurant of the Week: The Herb Box

An innovative, American-style eatery, The Herb Box in Scottsdale offers a full-service dining experience highlighting fresh ingredients, regional cuisine and twists on traditional dishes. The spot is vegetarian- and gluten-friendly and gives guests the opportunity to customize any meal to accommodate their preferences.

The Herb Box has two locations in the Valley; one on Shea Boulevard (this outpost was formerly found in DC Ranch) and the second being in Old Town Scottsdale. Each location offers the same menu, but the new Shea location has The Herb Box’s catering business and offers expansive patio seating, a gourmet marketplace and two private event spaces. The Old Town site highlights a rustic, farm-style aesthetic, whereas the Shea spot offers a more upscale, casual design with a modern, Southern aesthetic.

With a focus on using only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients, The Herb Box offers a curated selection of eats, with three menus: brunch for the weekends, lunch and dinner. The brunch menu has breakfast staples with a twist, like the bourbon ginger-peach French toast, topped with a bourbon-fired ginger peach and creme fraiche, and the more savory smoked salmon hash, crafted with crisp pancetta, eggs, capers, red onion, smashed fingerling potatoes and red pepper aioli. Each dish uses cage-free eggs, nitrate-free bacon and organic ingredients. A brunch-themed cocktail menu is also available and lists classic mimosas with your choice of juice and Bloody Marys.

If you’re hungry for dinner, The Herb Box has an eccentric menu with a variety of options to help cure any cravings. Light, shareable plates are available to start, like the pear-and-gorgonzola flatbread, complemented with crisp fried sage, white cheddar and pesto, or the Korean fried cauliflower tossed and crisped to perfection in a Korean hot pepper sauce. For dinner, the vegan butternut squash and corn enchiladas is a fan favorite, crafted with cotija, tomatillo verde and kale ensalada, alongside the grapefruit and sugar-charred salmon.

A drink menu is also available, consisting of bubbles, a refined selection of wine and beers and fresh, handcrafted cocktails. Some noteworthy mixed beverages include the LaLa Lavender, mixed with Finlandia Vodka, lemon juice, blackberries and lavender syrup, and the Spiced Grapefruit Sour, crafted with Rye Whiskey, grapefruit, lemon, honey and spiced liquor.
