Restaurant of the Week: Spinato’s at The Block

For nearly 50 years, Spinato has been one of the most recognized names in Arizona, thanks to the family’s beloved Spinato’s Pizzeria restaurants. The family just opened its sixth restaurant, the airy, modern Spinato’s at The Block, much to the delight of ‘za lovers in Scottsdale.

With its modern tilework, a neutral color palette with pops of mint green and gorgeous, oversized lighting, the recently opened Spinato’s at The Block in Scottsdale is undoubtedly a looker. (Check out the copper bar top, which pays homage to Spinato’s original location!) But in true Spinato’s fashion, it is its warm service, family-friendly atmosphere and mouthwatering pizza that keeps locals coming back for more.

Though the pizza is the main attraction, Spinato’s appetizers and salads are not to be missed. The trio of juicy, fork-tender meatballs (available with marinara or vodka sauce) is a table pleaser, as is the strawberry gorgonzola salad. A perfect salad to kick off the spring season, it features fresh spinach, red onions, crumbles of creamy gorgonzola, strawberries, tangy pomegranate vinaigrette and delightful house-made candied pecans that we’d gladly snack on all day long.

If you have a hankering for pasta, Spinato’s at The Block offers up all the classics, like spaghetti, chicken alfredo and four-cheese ravioli, as well as a selection of hearty sandwiches, including meatball and Italian beef. But no matter how full you are, promise you’ll still order pizza, OK?

A pizzeria likely isn’t in business for early five decades unless it is serving up some pretty stellar pies; Spinato’s is celebrating its 47th year. With its perfect crispy-chewy crust and incredible lightly sweet sauce, Spinato’s pizza is among the tastiest in the Valley. The Spicy Italian, brimming with meatball and pepperoni, is our favorite, though you truly can’t go wrong with any of the options. Or, you can even design your own pizza.

If something chocolatey beckons after dinner, the Brownie Bella is wonderfully rich, surrounded by salted caramel and chocolates sauces and topped with a scoop of gelato.

Spinato’s on The Block is open Tuesday through Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m. For more information, visit spinatospizzeria.com.
