The structure that is now Kitchen 56 was constructed in 1961 as a Humble/Enco full-service gas station and automotive repair shop. In 1988, the gas station closed, and the building operated as just an automotive repair shop. By 2006, the shop was vacated and boarded up, and it soon became known by neighbors as the “purple building.”

No longer a neighborhood eyesore, the building has been renovated and revived to be a new local hotspot called Kitchen 56. Design elements of the original structure can be found throughout the restaurant, along with an enlarged old photo that spans an entire wall of the dining room.

Kitchen 56 features a spacious indoor dining area with a wrap-around bar with large windows that bring the outdoors in. The cozy patio features dining tables, lounge seating, a beautiful stone water feature, a fire pit, and a ping pong table.
