What to Wear: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

Although there is no required dress code for “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction,” guests love to dress on theme for Barrett-Jackson. The annual eight-day event takes place at WestWorld of Scottsdale from Jan. 20 to Jan. 28.

“Automotive chic” is the overarching style motif of Barrett-Jackson, but it’s ideal for attendees to start their week casual and gradually become more grandiose–on par as the car auction itself becomes more high-end. Described best by Carolyn Jackson, Barrett-Jackson’s vice president of brand strategy and chief philanthropy officer, keep in mind this fashion advice: “The week ramps up with great fashion and the best looks are always seen on Super Saturday.”

This acclaimed car event is not only known for its vehicles but is also for its creative take on incorporating fashionable elements, such as the Arizona Fashion Week Collection of the Year display happening Jan. 20 at the Future Collector Car Show held onsite on the Polo Field during the auction.

Starting the week tame but tasteful, a classic silhouette or color palette that can be built on is key. A pop of color like Zade’s royal blue World To Fear jacket brings a subtle artistic look to your outfit. Or, a graphic motorsport jacket like Hailey’s, is on trend for 2024 and can keep you warm throughout the evening.

Materials that seamlessly blend the automotive and fashion industry like leather and denim pair well to create dimension to your outfit, such as the various leather jackets seen on Rocio, Atsunari and Tyler.

In terms of practicality, clear, simple purses that follow the bag policy and comfortable heels like wedges, platforms, or boots will allow you to look stylish and confident.

This year, Barrett-Jackson is starting its event with Rock The Block, a thrilling concert kickoff to the 2024 Scottsdale auction. British-American rock band, Foreigner, will be performing at WestWorld of Scottsdale on Jan. 19, bringing the excitement of live music to the weeklong automotive lifestyle celebration. For the concert, try festival wear elements such as bold, bright colors and embellishments like sequins, sparkles and fringe.

Consider Vera’s black velvet jumpsuit from Loveur that flows into a subtle sheer material for the legs. This already-elevated base can be layered with a statement cropped jacket to make for a rockin’ and sensible look.

Models Daisjion and Atsunari showcase the significance a statement piece can make with distinctive Faith Builders prints over neutral color schemes. Daisjion and Atsunari’s coats also make for a layered outfit that will keep guests warm throughout the evening and into the night.

A warmer, daytime look can be easily achieved. Tyler effortlessly does so by sporting an alternative Haus of Hendo vest with light-wash denim and oversized sunglasses that makes for a trendsetting and timeless outfit.

Barrett-Jackson is at its most formal as the auction ramps up near the end of the week and, of course, during the Opening Night Gala on Jan. 21. Cocktail attire is encouraged, but can be executed with a more imaginative approach. Think neutral colors, well-tailored pieces and interesting draping and silhouettes.

Depending on the textiles, implement more formal looks by wearing silk and satin. Alternatively, more casual materials like Rocio’s gray cotton dress can be dressed up or down with accessories. Dresses like Agorot’s, by Lena Mars, makes for a more flowy, sexy but elegant ensemble. Or dress looks up or down with sports jackets and accessories, like Zade’s Being Dapper jacket and sharp Quay sunglasses.

Barrett-Jackson, the world’s innovative leader in automotive lifestyle events, is continually creating a name for itself as a high-quality event that blends, fashion, cars and now the experience of live music. Dressing for this electrifying event means taking a base outfit and elevating it through distinctive statement pieces that ultimately reflect the love for car culture.
