The Moxy Phoenix Downtown Now Open

Downtown Phoenix has welcomed its newest hotel, The Moxy, an international hotel concept by Marriott. The Moxy Phoenix Downtown officially opened its doors in December 2023 within the historic Luhrs Building, breathing new life into a century-old architectural gem.

The Luhrs Building underwent a meticulous transformation, preserving the historic exterior while revamping the interior, resulting in a vibrant hotel that perfectly embodies the youthful and playful spirit of Moxy. The hotel is located on the corner of Central Avenue and Jefferson Street, providing easy access to the Valley Metro light rail and nearby attractions, including hotspots like CityScape, Stand Up Live, Copper Blues, Phoenix Art Museum, Heritage District, The Van Buren, Chase Field and Footprint Center.

Upon entering The Moxy Phoenix Downtown, guests are greeted by an inviting lobby, a lively bar, a complimentary welcome cocktail and a game room on the first floor. The hotel’s nine floors house 164 rooms, with a basement featuring a state-of-the-art fitness center. The top floor continues to serve as a law office, seamlessly blending modern hospitality with its historical elements.

“The Luhrs Building stands in a Qualified Opportunity Zone [QOZ], which underscores PEG’s values of reimagining communities,” says Joe Madera, regional director of Operations at PEG Hospitality Group, in a recent press release. “As one of the oldest buildings in Downtown Phoenix, this building embodies the youthful nature of Moxy while honoring the history of downtown by becoming an eclectic epicenter.”

Guests at The Moxy Phoenix Downtown can enjoy a plethora of amenities, including luggage lockers, a luxury gym and a business center. The hotel’s “Plug and Meet” gathering area offers modern seating and 55-in. TVs for presentations. All guest rooms come equipped with a 55-in. flat-screen TV, USB ports and complimentary Wi-Fi. The lobby features a state-of-the-art video wall and round-the-clock food and beverage service, with a diverse menu of snacks and drinks.

The bar at The Moxy promises a unique experience, featuring wines by the glass, local brews, mocktails and specialty cocktails. Guests can also savor exotic spirits, including Japanese whiskey, as well as cocktails with a local flair, incorporating Arizona-inspired ingredients like agave and prickly pear.

“The Moxy Phoenix Downtown is where we hope to see the community engage with our eccentric communal spaces,” says Madera, in a press release. “Downtown Phoenix is ripe for something different, and our goal is to create a destination spot for our weekend warriors.”
