An exciting new dining concept, Donabe, a Japanese Steakhouse residency, has opened its doors on the second floor at the W Scottsdale hotel.
Donabe is brought to the Valley by Alliance Hospitality Group, the team behind FLINT By Baltaire in Phoenix, Baltaire Steakhouse in Los Angeles and other notable restaurant concepts. Located in an intimate space off the popular Wet Deck at W Scottsdale, this hot new restaurant gives swanky, VIP vibes.
While guests will certainly come to Donabe for the see-and-be-seen aspect, the Alliance Hospitality Group culinary team worked together to create an innovative menu of Japanese cuisine that is sure to impress every palate.
Highlights from the starting courses are the Pacific oysters, kampachi sashimi and duck foie gras fried rice. There is also an incredible variety of sushi and rolls to choose from, including Santa Barbara Uni and King Crab Roll.
The Wagyu hot stone is a must-try from this tantalizing menu, featuring A5 sirloin, white scallion, daikon, and shiso chimichurri, which is served in an authentic Donabe pot. Let this mouthwatering steak continue to cook to your desired temperature on the hot stone inside the pot and then enjoy.
There are just a few entrees listed on this menu, but they are all truly a masterpiece. The Ora King salmon is cooked to perfection with a slightly crispy exterior and served with baby bok choy, maitake XO and citrus. The Wagyu cheeseburger is decadent and delicious with black truffle mayo, aged white cheddar and a Japanese milk bun, served with haystack fries.
Being a Japanese steakhouse, you can certainly expect some fine cuts of meat at Donabe. The 16-oz. Wagyu ribeye is Westholme Australian Wagyu, served with glazed carrots and shiso chimichurri, is hands down one of the best steaks we’ve had. There is also a New York strip and several other rare cuts on the menu.
Be sure to save room for dessert at Donabe. The selection includes several gluten-free options including a matcha basque cheesecake.
The restaurant also has a full bar inclusive of worldly wines, Japanese whiskies and alluring cocktails such as a Japanese Old Fashioned, Saturn and our personal favorite, Purple Rain, made with tequila blanco, Mezcal Joven lime, hibiscus and pineapple.
