Restaurant of the Week: Sake Haus

Downtown Phoenix is flourishing with exciting new bars and restaurants, and Sake Haus is one of the newest to add to your must-try list.

Located adjacent to the monOrchid building in the former Dressing Room space, Sake Haus is the brand new Fork & Dagger Hospitality concept that is bringing sushi, sake and Japanese whisky to Roosevelt Row. Sake Haus has an edgy and moody vibe with Japanese lanterns hanging throughout to create an intimate ambiance. Restaurant veteran and owner of Sake Haus, Julian Wright, says the Golden Gai district of Tokyo was the inspiration for this concept.

The menu, created by Head Sushi Chef Joe Cajipe, features a nice variety of delicious fresh nigiri, traditional maki rolls and sashimi. Some of our favorite rolls were the Bad and Buri with yellow fin two ways and the Shogun with salmon.

As for cocktails, they of course have a vast selection of sake and Japanese whiskey and traditional Japanese highball cocktails. The She-So High and Lychee Margarita are just two of the notable cocktails we recommend.

Sake Haus is open Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m. and Monday, Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight. Happy Hour will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays. Sake Haus does not take reservations. To see the full menu, visit sakehaus.net.
