Via 313

It has already gained accolades and attention from the Food Network and Food & Wine. Now, Via 313 makes its grand debut in Arizona with the opening of its newest location in Tempe.

Via 313 was founded by Detroit natives Brandon and Zane Hunt, who opened the pizza shop located near Arizona State University earlier this summer. Via 313 has made its mark throughout the United States, with Food Network ranking it “Top 5 Pizzas in America,” Pizza Today naming it “Independent Pizzeria of the Year” and Food & Wine saying it’s “one of the very best pizzas.” Outside of the slices, diners are reminded of Detroit via the pizzeria’s themed artwork, accenting the red-and-black color scheme.

The starter menu features salads like the beet salad with marinated beets, arugula, gorgonzola, candied pecans and  crisp apples, as well as our favorite, an arugula salad with baby spinach, orange zest, shallot, pecans and house-made peach vinaigrette. The appetizer lineup also includes cheese bread, meatballs with marinara sauce, roasted broccoli and cauliflower and roasted artichokes with basil, goat cheese, mozzarella and marinara baked and served with crostini.

With owners that hail from Motor City, it is no surprise that Via 313’s Detroit-style pizzas definitely steal the show. This style of pizza features a unique preparation method in steel rectangular pans, guaranteeing crispy dough on every edge. The cheese is generously layered on top and extends to the sides of the pan, further crisping the edges. Just before it arrives at your table, a layer of red sauce is added to the top, completing the dish.

The Cadillac, inspired by Tony Gemignani, is topped with gorgonzola, fig preserves, prosciutto di parma, parmesan and balsamic glaze. The Ambassador Bridge, inspired by World Pizza Champion Jeff Smokevitch, is crowned with sausage, pepperoni, fresh garlic, Italian oregano and house-made ricotta. If you’re still not sold on Detroit-style pizza, the restaurant also offers also bar-style pizza, like The Supreme or The Stooges with baby spinach, marinated artichokes, shallot and parmesan crisps. To sip alongside the pizza,, Via 313 brings craft cocktails, wine and local brews to its menu.

You definitely don’t want to skip out on dessert at Via 313. Its mouthwatering cinnamon sticks are crafted with Detroit-style dough, baked with cinnamon and sugar and topped with cream cheese icing, creating a perfect pair to the espresso martini. For those who are dairy free, you can opt for maple syrup instead of the cream cheese icing.

Via 313 is open Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
