Restaurant of the Week: The Cantina at Presidio

Settled beyond the Estrella Mountains in the Presidio Residents Club is The Cantina, a casual restaurant with made-from-scratch Mexican dishes and Chef-inspired twists on old favorites.

The concept comes from Deborah Huyer, who has garnered a reputation in Goodyear for authentic, quality food. In the last two years, Huyer has opened three restaurants in the Estrella by Newland community—the Lakeside Grill in May 2018, Café Bebida in 2019 and, most recently, The Cantina at Presidio.

The Cantina boasts a refreshing take on traditional Mexican cuisine staples through freshly sourced ingredients and a hospitable staff that add an extra level of charm to each meal. The diablo beef street tacos are a particular favorite—made with the spiciest beef on the menu, slow braised and spiced with chilis de arbol. The seafood campechana is a flavorful alternative for those looking to indulge in a more refreshing dish—made with shrimp, crab, squid, avocado, tomato and cucumber, among other items.


Beyond an appetizing menu, The Cantina also boasts fun and exquisitely decadent cocktails, tequilas, draft beers and specialty sodas to pair with each dish. The Cantina Rita is a boozy indulgence made with tequila, fresh lime juice, Triple Sec and simple syrup. For a fruitier taste, guests can also sample the Jalisco Flor—made with Teramana Blanco Tequila, La Pinta Pomegranate Liqueur, lime juice, pomegranate juice and Sprite.

The delicious food and drink options are elevated by the refined, indoor/outdoor dining space. A table on the outdoor deck offers guests a gorgeous overlook of the Presidio Residents Club pool and the backdrop of the Estrella Mountains.
