Restaurant of the Week: Pa’La

With an ever-changing daily menu focused on wood-fired seasonal ingredients, Pa’La in Downtown Phoenix offers food with a sense of history, connection and global influences to cultivate a place where the community can gather and indulge.

With Chef Jason Alford at the helm, Pa’La in Downtown Phoenix offers a unique menu showcasing the best Mediterranean, South American and Japanese flavors. Chef Alford is a veteran of doling out wood-fired fare after spending a decade at the decorated Roka Akor, an opulent Japanese steakhouse in Scottsdale. The seasoned pro specializes in the technique of robatayaki, a traditional Japanese-style method of fireside cooking.

Pa’La offers a dark and intimate atmosphere with low-lit candle sticks to illuminate each table. Exposed brick, black accents and elegant chandeliers adorn the space, in addition to unique art pieces and a cozy nook for live jazz performances to set the mood. Guests can watch as their plates are prepared from an open-concept kitchen, with stellar views of the wood-fire process.

The dining destination’s menu is determined daily, making no two experiences at Pa’La the same. Guests can keep up with the changes on Instagram and can expect nothing but the best flavor profiles from the freshest available ingredients each visit. Every dish, including items from both land and sea, features organic produce, including wild-caught fish flown in daily and sustainably-sourced meats. We highly recommend dining omakase style and entrusting the chef with a surprise multi-course meal. Pa’La encourages guests to dine with friends and loved ones, as everything from the tapas to the dinner mains are meant to be shared and enjoyed in good company.

Similarly, specialty cocktails at the restaurant are also ever-evolving, with handcrafted sips curated depending on the daily availability of fresh ingredients. The extensive wine menu features a carefully curated selection of bubbles, whites and reds ranging from Slovenia, Spain, France, Greece and more, to pair beautifully with each dish. This summer, visitors who dine on Wednesday nights can receive half-off wine bottles and enjoy $3 opulent oysters on Sundays.

Pa’La is open for dinner, Tuesday through Saturday, 5 to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m.
