As the school year comes to an end in Arizona, it’s time to start thinking about your family’s summer beach retreat. Our recommendation: Ocean Park Inn, the recently refreshed San Diego mainstay.
Since the 1970s, travelers had made their way to Ocean Park Inn in Pacific Beach for a little sand-between-their toes escape. Just last year, the hotel unveiled a three-phase property-wide renovation which focused on the exterior, pool deck and lounge–with more exciting changes on the horizon. The fourth and final phase of Ocean Park Inn’s renovation is set for this year and will includes a guests-only tiki-inspired cocktail pool bar.
Starting with the lobby, Ocean Park Inn gives off a mid-century modern-meets-beach vibe. The light and airy setting welcomes guests with a massive fish tank and a unique art installation by Randall Engstrom of Randall’s Sandals (these are just the start of the Inn’s picture-ready moments). And there is a massive wall feature just to remind you that you’ve stepped into a beachy retreat reading “Hello Sunshine.”
The refreshed rooms are decked with surf-inspired art, modern light wood, crisp white linens and pops of yellow and mint green in the furniture selections. The rooms even have private patios and balconies for stealing glances of the beach and the cotton-candy sunsets. Not to be outdone by the guestrooms, even the hallways feature cool black-and-white floor-to-ceiling beach scenes.
Just outside, Ocean Park Inn’s heated pool (which was part of the recent renovation), surrounded by sleek white furnishings, offers views of the beach, boardwalk and towering palms.
The renovated pool area even has a door (next to an outdoor shower, to boot) that leads directly to a boardwalk which separates the hotel from the sand. Guests will find loungers, boogie boards, shovels and buckets for sandcastle-building you’ll want for a beach day well spent. Plus, each room is equipped with large beach towels for its guests.
