Frequency Collection - Model 1

Fabulous Designer: Elizabeth Bethany

Phoenix Fashion Week, the leading fashion industry event in the Southwest, returns Oct. 20 and Oct. 21 at Chateau Luxe. Meet participating designer Elizabeth Bethany of Frequency Collection, a Phoenix-based lingerie and fashion brand.

Follow at: @frequencycollection on Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok.

Hometown: Downingtown, PA, and has been living in Phoenix for the past 10 years.

Your first fashion job: When I was 16, I got a job working at a clothing store in the mall, which eventually led to achieving a Fashion Merchandising degree at Philadelphia University.

How would you describe your style, personally and as a brand? Frequency Collection radiates dark, edgy energy that is inspired by subcultures such as the occult, tattoos and music festivals. Our social media presence will bewitch you with eye-catching content, including beautiful models, witchcraft inspiration and even fire dancing.

When did you know you had a passion for fashion? At just 5 years old. My mother took me shopping for a winter coat, where I found the black fringe leather jacket of my dreams. That’s when the love affair was born. To this day, I still have that jacket hanging up in my studio workroom.

Your biggest fashion accomplishment so far and why? Running Frequency Collection full time for the past three years. I connected with Phoenix Fashion Week last year and participated in the Community Night Show, which inspired me to compete this year for the title of Designer of the Year.

The biggest obstacle you overcame? The tricky task of breaking through imposter syndrome. At first, it was difficult to feel important and validated in a saturated industry of countless designers and fast-fashion brands. Eventually, I realized that I do belong in the spotlight and claimed my place amongst the nation’s top fashion design brands.

A designer who inspires you and why? I am inspired by other independent fashion designers such as Toxic Vision and Melanoir. Both brands are owned by women who have started out all on their own, just like Frequency Collection. They aren’t afraid to push the limits of what is possible as an emerging fashion label.

Advice for someone pursuing a career in fashion as a designer? Let go of perfectionism, and just start working, even when it feels messy. If you wait until you are “ready” you’ll never begin, so start now and take it one step at a time.

What can fans expect to see from your collection in October? This year at Phoenix Fashion Week, Frequency Collection will be enchanting the runway with 10 looks, including best sellers and new designs that will be debuting for the first time. The dark, witchy, mystical showcase will cast a spell of empowerment, sensuality and creative expression.
