Fabulous People: Rick Beck

Rick Beck is the owner/founder of Rick Beck Real Estate and Rick Beck Luxury Properties. “I am in my 37th year as a residential real estate broker in Arizona and California. I sell high-end estates and homes with a focus on Paradise Valley, Arcadia, Scottsdale and Biltmore in the Greater Phoenix area.” Learn about Rick Beck…

Hometown: Forest Lake, Minn., which is the largest farming community in Minnesota and the city where the dairy farmers sell to Land O’Lakes.

First job: I worked at a McDonald’s and within two months of working there I was promoted to a swing manager — a fancy title for managing the middle shift, which was the busiest time of the day (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.).

Favorite ways to spend your free time in AZ: I love to ride bikes on the Canal Trail behind our home, go hiking and 4×4-ing up in the Canyon Lands, working out, playing pickleball, riding my motorcycle all over this beautiful country, hanging out with family in our pool, playing with my grandkids and manicuring my own shrubs and trees.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Being married to my beautiful, wonderful and loving wife for 28 years and raising three kids in a blended family who are all very successful in their own right. That’s the greatest!

The biggest obstacle you overcame: Being adopted by my grandparents after my mother had me at 17 and went off to live another life. My grandparents had nine more children to raise in a small three-bedroom/one-bath home on a single income.

Someone who inspires you and why: Anyone who rises to overcome great odds to achieve what people believe to be unachievable.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Be consistent and persistent! Failure is not an option. Write down your dreams and then they become goals. Outwork everyone and anyone.

Favorite quote: “In a pressure situation, a winner looks back on past successes. A loser looks back on past failures.”

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I was raised in a family of 10 children, and the other nine were my aunts and uncles that I grew up calling my brothers and sisters. I called my grandparents “Mom” and “Dad.”

What makes someone fabulous: Being a good person to others and it shows through in everything that person does. From giving you attention when you feel unnoticed, to making a positive statement when you’re down, to always giving of themselves even when they are busy and may not have time. They glow from the inside out. That’s my wife, Nikki!
