Restaurant of the Week: Spinato’s Pizzeria Epicenter

Dishing up its cherished Italian recipes that have been passed down for generations, Spinato’s Pizzeria & Family Kitchen has opened its newest Valley location at Epicenter at Agritopia in Gilbert. The East Valley pizzeria marks the family-owned restaurant’s sixth Arizona outpost.

An exciting addition to Epicenter at Agritopia in Gilbert, the newly opened Spinato’s offers a beautiful, modern setting to cater to just about any outing: date night, casual family weeknight dinner, after-work apps and cocktails, you name it. The airy dining space is decked in neutral tones of grays, greens and light wood, with a cool indoor/outdoor bar at one end of the restaurant for catching a ballgame or sipping a cold one with wings. The plant-lined patio is sure to be one of the Gilbert’s most popular spots once the temperatures come down, as there’s nothing better than enjoying a negroni or paloma under twinkle lights with a cool breeze.

Spinato’s Epicenter doles out much of the adored menu items that have made it a local favorite for nearly five decades. The famed meatballs (some of the absolute best in the Valley), stuffed mushrooms and creamy artichoke dip are the restaurant’s all-star starters while there are a variety of salads to choose from for a lighter kick-off to the meal.

Hearty appetites can choose from an array of calzone and sandwich options (including a meatball sub–have we mentioned how amazing the meatballs are?) and pasta plates (we especially love the penne alla vodka, with Italian sausage, red and green pepper, red onion, garlic and vodka cream sauce). Visiting soon? For a limited time–through August–diners can dig into the Monte Cristo calzone. The decadent dish features mozzarella, Swiss cheese and ham melted inside crispy crust, crowned with powdered sugar and Mike’s Hot Honey.

However, the crème de la crème of the menu of Spinato’s Epicenter is the pizza selection. This ‘za impresses with its perfect crispy-chewy crust and lightly sweet sauce. The Super Six is a menu staple and meat lover’s dream, brimming with Italian sausage, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, mixed bell peppers, mozzarella and oregano, though Spinato’s limited-time pies never miss.

Plus, Spinato’s Epicenter launched the restaurant’s new vegan pizza, available on Spinato’s regular crust at any size as a build-your-own option as well as with gluten-free cauliflower crust, which is also vegan friendly (available as a 10-in. pizza).

Spinato’s Epicenter is open Tuesday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m. Happy hour is every day from open until 6 p.m. For now, reservations are required.
