The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation hosts the 14th annual Fitz’s Supper Club fundraiser at Dominick’s Steakhouse on April 29. The event serves a dual purpose, donating the proceeds to K-12 education programs and the fight against breast cancer.
For nearly two decades, The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation has been at the forefront of making a difference in the lives of children and families by promoting youth education and raising awareness about breast cancer.
“My mother was on a nonprofit, and I always admired the work she did. When she passed away in 2003, I felt like a foundation was a great way to honor her legacy,” Fitzgerald says. Fitzgerald’s mother, Carol, advocated for youth, education and families, in addition to being a founding member of the African American Breast Cancer Alliance. Fitzgerald honors his mother’s legacy by donating the proceeds of the annual event, Fitz’s Supper Club, to provide educational resources to youth and offering assistance to individuals impacted by breast cancer.
While the mission of The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation has remained the same over the past 18 years, the foundation has evolved in many other ways.
“The biggest thing that’s evolved is our ability to find wonderful partners in Arizona, Minnesota and around the country. Microsoft has helped us get tablets into technology labs at schools, and we work with Banner to take their mobile mammogram buses into underserved communities. I think the longer we have the relationships, the more executives continue to see that the foundation shows up and we are not just there for optics,” Fitzgerald says.
Fitz’s Supper Club is The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation’s largest fundraising event. Last year, the event raised $1 million, marking a milestone in the event’s history. “I’ve never set a goal financially, so I don’t have one for this year. Just the fact that people are here and they want to support is a win,” Fitzgerald says.
Fitz’s Supper Club is known for attracting business executives and community leaders, which makes Dominick’s Steakhouse the perfect setting for this year’s event. The night consists of inspiring speeches, touching stories and delicious food from Dominick’s.
“Partnering with Dominick’s has elevated Fitz’s Supper Club to a completely different level. You can have a nice event anywhere, but when you come to the nicest steakhouse in the city, it really takes it to the next level,” Fitzgerald says.
