Once a mobile food truck roaming the Valley since 2013, Wandering Donkey is now a thriving restaurant in North Scottsdale that has become a beacon of flavor and fun, drawing in locals to indulge in its craft cocktails, lively ambiance and Mexican fare.
The taqueria provides a warm and inviting ambiance, perfect for a casual evening with friends or a lively family dinner. Its interior is filled with rustic charm, featuring vibrant neon blue hues, wooden elements and a diverse collection of murals adorning the walls.
Inspired by the bold flavors of traditional Mexican fare, Wandering Donkey’s fare includes an assortment of tacos, salads, bowls and more. Some highlights of the menu include the enchilada plate, with two chicken enchiladas, Oaxaca cheese, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo and crema served with a side of Borracho beans and Spanish rice; the slow-roasted pork carnitas, with roasted street salsa, pickled red onion, sliced avocado, lime crema, cotija cheese and corn tortillas; and the hearty Gringo burger, with fresh half-pound certified Angus beef, sliced tomato, red onion, lettuce, chipotle aioli and a brioche bun served with crispy fries.
To wash everything down, Wandering Donkey houses an assortment of top-shelf tequilas, including flight options to sample a wide variety of glasses. Additionally, a lineup of refreshing signature drinks is available, including craft cocktails, seltzers, Mexican beer, sangrias and house margaritas. Some local favorites include the Honeybee with Patron Reposado Tequila, Triple Sec, fresh lemon juice, honey and a sugar rim; the spicy Ay-Chihuaua with Ghost Tequila, Ancho Reyes, pineapple, lime and jalapeño; and the Mexican Mule, with Tezacul “Organic” Reposado Tequila, lime juice and ginger beer.
Beyond its culinary delights, Wandering Donkey is also an entertainment hub in North Scottsdale. Weekly live music performances set the stage for a lively atmosphere, while bingo and karaoke nights bring out the inner performer in patrons of all ages.
Wandering Donkey is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 3 p.m. to midnight. Happy hour is also available, taking place daily from 3 to 6 p.m.
